how to solve many problems with the VA medical system. I am doing it myself and...

There are many vets in my cataegory. Over 65, collecting Medicare, have a supplementary health policy, AND belong to Silver Sneakers.
I just returned from the gym this morning and I try to excercise at least three to four times a week. Except for my melds, I get most of my medical from the private sector. In the last four years I have referred myself for colonoscopy, heart treatment (getting two stents), hemoroid ectomy, eye exams and carteract removal and implants plus regular medical from my own private family doctor. This is at no cost to the VA. All veterans who are over 65 should be doing the same thing. The most important thing, and you know this, is the excercise regiment.
I would suggest (and I have suggested this to previous VA secretaries) is for the va to subsidize the memberships in the health clubs or programs. This is preventive medical. Most supplementary health policies offer this as the silver sneakers program benefit. You could call it "silver boot medical benefit".
The returns would be bunch of fit seniors and proactive about their health. As a trainer at one time, I trained MS and MD patients as well as diabetics with some success using mild excercise programs.
In short, I am taking my life and my health in my own hands and not depending totally on the VA. And for a 73 year old , 100% disabled vet, and retired, and bald with grey hair, I am not doing too bad. I am not costing the tax payer much and still have my benefits and my pride.
Thanks for letting me tell my thoughts. Keep up the good work. You are my president!
